I experienced this book on three levels. The first, and most obvious level is the humorous. The antics of the team and the absurdity of the high-anxiety Army machine is hilarious. The next level is Campau’s keen insights into what happens to people in a deployment. Through funny observations and insightful summaries, he interprets military experience which can only lead to better self-reflection for veterans and those who love them. The deepest level I experienced was the thin ribbon of sadness that undergirds the whole work. That shadow you see on the wall as you read is the ever expanding and frustrating war. That low, ebbing sound is youth slipping away, turning the young unnaturally old before their time.
This book will make you laugh, cry, and feel something you can never experience without being there.

Ridiculosity gives the reader a down to earth look at what a deployment at a military base is all about. Not the work per se, but what the day to day is like. Where one sleeps, eats, uses the bathroom or goes for a quiet moment. Toddy has described all of this in a way that anyone can relate to, which is a gift and frankly why I enjoyed this book so much.
Full disclosure - I had the distinct pleasure of attending college with the author, so have known Todd's wit, intelligence, honesty, and ability to communicate for many years.
There has been much written about military strategy, campaign and the soldiers involved. Ridiculosity gives the viewer an inside view of what life is like on a military base from the perspective of an author who keeps things in perspective.
Highly recommend that anyone interested reads this before the movie comes out. )
I could not have thought of a better title for Todd’s book. Ridiculous doesn’t begin to describe what Todd and his team went through while deployed in Afghanistan. A warning to all who enter the pages of this book – it is not for the faint of heart, certainly not for kids, and most likely not for the many women across the country (and the world) who choose to ignore all the locker room-style antics, sounds, smells and graphic language. If you step inside the pages, you are not of the faint at heart, and you do accept that men will be men, and that sometimes women will fit right in. Todd has written a book that is gritty and real, that explains what living in a war zone is really like. He doesn’t couch it with all the glory for God, country, Mom and apple pie we are so used to hearing. He truthfully tells of the shortcomings and/or total lack of leadership, common sense and the apparent futility of the whole concept of this never ending war; and he always tells it with humor (even if tongue in cheek). Most meaningful to me were the last few chapters that tell of what happens when he and his team returns home. Will life ever be the same? Probably not; but there certainly is a whole lot more those of us who remained at home could do other than say “good job,” or wave the flag. I loved the humor and the satirical nature throughout. Todd described his team to the point that I feel I might recognize them during a conversation. Personally, this gal loved this book and the way Todd tells his story. I’m looking forward to the next chapter.

This book was tremendous. It really opened up a side of war and deployment that we don't see in civilian life. Definitely needed to be written.
Amazing book would definitely recommend to any reader. Loved to see a small peek into the lives of our military.
Ah hilarious look at army life in Afghanistan. Full disclosure Todd is a friend of mine, but I also bought the book for my niece who served in Afghanistan, and she loved it.
Wow. Todd easily captures the insanity of a deployment. This was a great read. The bond between him and his Soldiers is evident and highlights the personal aspect of the book while pointing out the insanity of Afghanistan.
